Stallions set tone in series, take series lead

by David Lang

The Essa Stallions started their defense of the Presidents Cup championship trophy yesterday afternoon, as they welcomed a familiar foe to the Angus Rec Center, in the 2018 president cup series finalist, The Smith Falls Settlers.

Essa finished as the number 2 seed and Smith Falls the number 7 seed respectively.

The Stallions came out strong with a hot start, as one of the newest members of the team, Doug Ledger got the boys going with his first of the playoffs, and The Herd never really looked back after that as Essa prevailed over a young Smith Falls team, 8-1.

7 more goals would come throughout the game, created by some solid team play and puck movement. Goals were scored by: Tim Holstrom (2), Daniel Spannar (2), Jared Weatherbee, Alex Wahlstrom and Parker Stewart.

8 players in all, tallied 2 points. An overall good team effort from the boys. Ethan James stopped 26 pucks for the W.

"I thought we had moments tonight; both good and bad. We still have some inconsistencies when it comes to everyone buying in to what we do here. We have a "Stallion" way of doing things. We will get there. This is a good building block for us." said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Ops Sylvain Cloutier.

"Everyone is up and ready for playoffs. It's what it is all about. It's why we are apart of this. Long days at training camp, cold practices, long bus trips and a chance to play for a championship. I thought we played well, but we can be better. Most of the guys in the room would express the same. Couple of things we need to tidy up, but this is now behind us, we just move forward. shift after shift, period after period, game after game" said General Manager David Lang.

The Herd now take to the road, as they head to Smith Falls on Wednesday, looking to close out the best 2 of 3 series. This will mark a homecoming for one of the best players in Smith Falls Settlers history, as now Stallions forward Reilly Degray returns to his hometown, to face his former team at the Smith Falls Memorial Community Centre. Degray, a Smith Falls native was acquired at the trade deadline by Essa.

Let's Go Stallions !!!!!!
